Habemus 3D on VirtualBox
I can finally say: "Habemus 3D on VirtualBox". E 'stata dura, but the satisfaction is even greater. These additions compared to previous post:
- Nat service network of virtual machine, not host interface (not working, and have not yet managed to understand why);
- enable port 6000 for 'X forwarding on the host machine, in my ubuntu / etc / gdm / gdm.conf:
DisallowTCP = true # (comment this line);
DisallowTCP = false (insert the other); - in the guest machine in the shell, type: xhost + local: (used to enable the X connection to all local users).
That's it! Un bel et volilà glxinfo:
Update 8/02/2008:
Sux install (sudo apt-get install sux);
sux, type in the shell, enter the password and enter the root (it helps to avoid an Xlib error because you try to log in as root to an X server to another user);
Finally here's a screenshot of the root of KDE4 in VirtualBox with 3D enabled:
and the desktop with KDE4 transparencies:

Hello,
I am very interested in this project. You also have an English version of this text?
I do not speak Italian very well.

Hi Gijs,
there is a translate link on the page. If you click the little UK flag there, you get a version in English. It is not perfect, but quite readable ...

You could write a guide on how you managed to run everything? Or what packages are served through ..
February 7 2008 at 3:38 pm
I do not know if it can work but, in the case of host interface is enabled, try running the command
xhost + [IP guest]
on the host machine.
Hello

Hello thread,
You have to follow what I wrote in my previous post and to integrate with it.

[...] E 'appeared in the ubuntu repositories of Parallels Workstation 2.2 the well-known software virtualization. To enable the repository just enabled the repository software archive.canonical.com / partner in the "Third Party Software" option "Software Sources". This version of Parallels is just a trial version that expires after 15 days and will need to purchase a license (about € 40). Or is that VirtualBox is opensource and optionally you can enable 3D acceleration. [...]

I'm trying some distributions unstable with VirtualBox on windows vista, you can also go to enable 3d acceleration?
7 February 2008 at 10:35 pm
I do not think so, this method uses OpenGL. The guest machine uses 3D acceleration for the resources of the host. To view I think you should use VMware fusion or Parallels Workstation.

Believe that we can be able to virtualize windows with 3d acceleration?

In theory yes, but technically it is very difficult since it would translate the instructions of DirectX in OpenGL. If some crazy we can ...

I tried your guide, we can not, give me this error:

17 February 2008 at 1:57 pm
Weird! The error message clearly indicates that you have not set the variable in the file glstub environment. However missing quotation marks in your host name before: 7000, is a failure to wordpress or not you have just made?
Another question: Did you run the daemon stub (as root: stub-daemon) on the host machine?
Let me know how it went ...
