PCLinuxOS a beautiful surprise!

To my opinion the scaling of PCLOS on the classifiche of Distrowatch is a little anomalous and not for the fact in itself that draft of a young distribution but because it does not seem to me that it offers “a thus better” experience regarding the others distro. We analyze the happened one of ubuntu for a moment: from where it derives? Before ubuntu, the distributions “niubb oriented” were Mandrake (not still mandriva), SuSE (not still OpenSuse) and Fedora Core. In general terms this that promised these distro was “an operating system free and easy to use”, a promise that unfortunately did not come respected: Mandrake demanded the unloading of 3 CD and the handicap against which it was come to us to meet nearly from quickly was the lack of numerous firmware that in many cases they did not allow “a decent” use of the computer. Practically it was suggested to the customer to buy the version Power Pack that contained all the driver. SuSE was a distribution with ribbons, but it was not free and the package “personal” also contained always 5 CD that had to unload illegally or to buy in store. The equipment software of SuSE was phenomenal because in those CD you could find also your grandmother to us (if only there were in a package) but the thing did not reveal simple for a customer the first crews since 3 were found to you also or 4 programs in order to establish a logon to Internet and this confused who did not have experience with the pinguino. This to the eyes of the new customers was an other point of confusion: how ago a customer whom he has not never seen linux to choose between KDE and GNOME? How ago to knowing qual'è the best one?
Ubuntu was before distro on the market to complete a revolutionary work. All gratis, with firmware (also owners) already included (that it meant least problems of survey hardware). Distribution based on debian and therefore much “standard” regarding the position of the bookcases (it rendered that it adapts or to the smanettoni that to the niubbi). All in a single CD and all optimizing for a single DE, leaving to the possibility to the customers to install KDE in place of GNOME in according to moment. Semplicità of use and architectonic semplicità of the distribution, all joined to a community poliglotta and much available one. This second me they have been the “winning papers” of ubuntu.
The choice to include a single DE is senz'altro one of the characteristics of “coraggiosità” of ubuntu that it has thus had the possibility to construct itself around gnome, integrating themselves at best with this DE and showing a cure of the detail that still lacked in tantissime other desktop fundamentalally agnostiche distributions.
Naturally also ubuntu it is not perfect but sure these elements constituted an innovation inside of the ecosystem of the various distributions linux. There is from saying that although ubuntu it had proposed a thus revolutionary system, its rise in classifies of distrowatch was not repentina how much that of PCLOS that it seriously makes me to doubt of the legittimità of the position assumed from PCLOS in these last months.
But we speak about PCLOS: cos'ha much special one. Fundamentalally, free PCLOS are an equipped mandriva of firmware owners and a graphical and sonorous topic that remember “the uncle work” bill. And then? And then enough. Piû the great innovation is the use of synaptic (also on KDE) for the packages rpm that it uses but for the rest we find davanti to a mandriva “drugged” to firmware and that as ubuntu it chooses one of the two desktop environment rather than proporli all and two. PCLOS includes also a long series of codec owners that it renders the customers particularly likeable niubbi that but they do not come thus correctly introduced to the world of the free software. It is a choice of strategy sure paid regarding the download, but I do not know to say how much is effectively good for the comunitâ of the free software. If for case PCLOS it became the distro more used indeed from niubbi in little years svenderemmo all plan GNU, because we would obtain a likeable copy of windows without neither law neither faith. From the point of view of the innovationes, for the rest, PCLOS does not offer a various vision, has not rivoluzionato a world, does not have profuse a great engagement in order to supply the good localization. That is why for me PCLOS is a distro overhauled, without dorsal thorn and “heart”. I would by far prefer to advise a recent OpenSuSE rather than this distribution even if obviously my heart strikes for debian, mepis and ubuntu… excuse for the novel, I held to giving a my judgment to us

Your examination is truly punctual and precise and very rarely it has happened to see some to me of this invoice like comment to a post. But ban to compliments, must say that you are successful to express nearly compiutamente what it is also my thought, in fact in mine post I stretched to emphasize the goodness of PCLinuxOS from the point of view of “niubbo” that in the passage from “uncle Bill” to “tux” it is not found spaesato too much. Also true that in this case the approach to a system *nix little is corrected, but is mettiti in the cloth of “accustomed” to windows; it is like the poveraccio that in its life it has had to unwillingly sorbire a single “rincoglionito” television net remaining some even partially and suddenly a plurale information is found with 200 channels and: how tasks take that it?
To es. my before distro it has been mandrake, then opensuse, you know because? Simply because they low introduced the panel with the menu like win. Ubuntu that has the particularitity of the menu in the high part, at the beginning has perhaps scared me, or annoyed, I do not know it to say, made is that I have a little put to us to accustom to me; and they are one to which the piacciono innovation!
In conclusion I think PCLOS a distro good in order to allow “niubbo” beginning to take confidenza with the world linux, and this of it perhaps justifies the amount of download, but obviously not to the height of Ubuntu or Opensuse.
