@Filo: yes, in order to compile kde 4 it convene to use kdesvn-build and to compile the modules at least kdesupport, kdelibs, kdebase. Then, if you want additional applications, you must some compile also others.
To the state they puts into effect, kde4 it is not more usable than like era in versions 4,0 and 4.0.1. We will see what will be ready for July (4,1).
