Which distro for mine laptop?
As all know, little days ago the airone it has detached its flight and I must say with good result in terms of improvement of the total performances and a good stability of the system. Unfortunately on mine laptop verification that such problem already documented in post precedence, than up to the present is not successful to resolve; reason for which they are returned to “gibbone”. However, being the undersigned “smanettone” for necessity and a vocation, I do not succeed in desistere trying the “new one”, therefore a dilemma is placed me: Which distro (new, I would add) for mine laptop?
The solution is not easy, above all considering the fact that of good distro us of is several in turn, neither tantomeno means to put to make one of those “wars of religion” own to me, ahimè, of some atmospheres of the pinguino (participates to the initiative “not to the distro war”, therefore…); thus I leave again to the search of a my ancient love, opensuse, reached the phase of development beta 1 of version 11. I will not be to list of to all the characteristics because the object of the post is not this, but will say of last the modernizations:
- Linux kernel 2.6.25-rc9
- GCC 4.3
- libzypp 3.12.1
- PackageKit 0.2.0
- AppArmor 2.3
- Xen 3.2.1 RC1
- glibc 2,8 CVS
- PulseAudio 0.9.10
For further information it is possible to consult here here, while for the download. Moreover here the countdown for the escape of the stable version.

To me it seems a good solution for mine laptop, hoping not to incur in the same problems of Heron; you have yourselves some of sufficiently interesting others fatevi ahead…

I council if you want a distro to you cured gnewsense, mint, mandriva
if you want a distro performante debian, archlinux
I advice against to you opensuse is much heavy one especially for the portable ones

Me incuriosisce gnewsense, also because, I confess my ignorance, of it I did not suspect not even the existence, while the others distro suggested have already tried them at least once.
@ Good Sense
I have already tried Fedora 8; problem similar to that one of Hardy.

I have used with very many satisfaction two distributions based on debian (while I have heads to them nearly all, also ubuntu/kubuntu)
Sul mine laptop Dell Inspiron Mepis has satisfied all my necessities.
But from a little, siccome they are a smanettone like you, sidux give the satisfaction to me of having Debian SID () stable!
Incredible not?
However all and two have an excellent support of the hardware, but sidux it is fastest!
Among other things it has exited at the beginning of you open them the new version!

I have participated to the translation of the handbook in Italian! Excellent resource for the smanettoni in debian!

I have your same problem. I would have to take short to a laptop and wanted to install to us on a distro powerful and relatively ready to the use (= that you do not obligate me to 2 gg of smanettamenti in order to make to work the wifi).
Up to now I have used Arch, than although or light and facilemnte indeed customizzabile it suffers from the following problems:
1) it does not have a graphical atmosphere installed (=perdi an afternoon in order to shape X and your DE)
2) the repositories from time to time it gives burttissime surprised (as an example the fact that the new one kernel impacchettato for Arch has sent me the house serveur a seg fault, than is not own a beautiful thing eh)
I have had of the optimal experiences with Sabayon, I would advise than you to try. Up to now it is stat the only one whose liveCD it has allowed to make me ALL (that is to work for an entire day till to save the contacts to me of the cellular one via bluetooth) without some additional configuration. It joins the power of gentoo without becoming dumb in order to shape a system from zero (but you can always make it eh). Moreover if you want less eye candy there is the version business that it is still piu' fast and immediate in the renderti productive. Only the two defects that I have found are the system of porting that it stretches to compile a little all (and dimenticarti not to change the graphical topic, less than you milanista are not sfegatato).
