Mentor Tv card, xawtv and hardy.
Power of the pinguino! An old card tv, a Mentor of 1999, than obviously did not want to know some to work with sight, works dignitosamente with ours airone. How?
The card in issue uses the chip bt878 that it is loaded automatically from Ubuntu Hardy with formulation UNKNOWN/GENERIC. This “generic” acknowledgment does not allow the vision of the tv, reason for which must at least set up manually the module of the kernel in such way that recognizes also the model of the tvcard or with the same detailed lists. Here like making:
- cat /usr/share/doc/linux-doc-2.6.24/Documentation/video4linux/CARDLIST.bttv (this commando opens in shell present the CARDLIST.bttv rows in the documentation of the kernel of hardy);

- the Mentor tv card uses a system pixelview; in the cardlist there are various cards pixelview, therefore it must make some attempt in order to characterize that just (in my case number 70); now enough to execute in succession rmmod bt878 - rmmod bttv - modprobe bttv card=70 (the first two commandos they cancel the modules momentarily bt878 and bttv, the last charge bttv for the card Prolink Pixelview PV-BT878P;
- dmesg | grep bttv; if cell'output there is a line similar to this: input: bttv IR (card=70) as /devices/pci0000: 00/0000: 00: 0a.0/input/input9 all it would have to be to place;
- however the commando modprobe charge the modules only momentarily, to the riavvio all returns like before. How to make the load of the correct formulations? Thus:
Editare the /etc/modules rows inserendovi the following lines:
bt878
bt878-alsa
to bttvEditare the /etc/modprobe.d/aliases rows inserting: alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-81-0 bt878
alias char-major-81-1 bt878-alsa
options saa7134 card=70
alias char-major-89 i2c-dev
Riavviare
The TV card is to place. Now we install and configuration of xawtv:
- I sudo apt-get install xawtv;
- for the scanning of the channels we have two roads, utility scantv that it is settled with xawtv, or the manual search:
- in order to use scantv on ubuntu it is necessary to create a link symbolic: I sudo ln - s /dev/vbi0 /dev/vbi; now to type scantv
- launch xawtv and to open the menu to curtain with the key dx of the mouse, therefore to cliccare on channel editor; scorrerre with the arrow of the keyboard till to find the channels.

I quite have resuscitato a pinnacle of `the 95 with linux (I use also she the chip bt878).
And he goes that is a wonder, or like tv or like recorder.
In order to visualize tv you council tvtime, that it is much more user-friendly than xawtv, while in order to record mencoder.
if I interest you I had written two post on the argument:

Beautiful post, above all “the tv on pinguino” me it seems or much punctual and precise one. Regarding tvtime, already I have used it and I agree with your analysis, but I have a problem with the system tv for which it marks them is weak person and tvtime-scanner it does not succeed to find a single channel. From this point of view xawtv it is more “powerful”.
