Towards Kde 4.2: “Kde 4,2 on Intrepid Ibex”.

tk4.jpgOn the escort of post “Kde 4,1 on Fedora 9” and recognizing the just merits to my conterraneo Felipe for its “Kde 4,1 for Ubuntu Hardy, in a pair of hours” I have decided to reorganize the ideas and to create this guide in order to compile Kde 4,2 on Intrepid Ibex. Before beginning a precisazione: the procedure that we will go to execute will not modify your system if not in the part of the installation of the necessary bookcases to the operation of the desktop manager, for the rest kde will reside all in /opt/kde4, for which it will be possible, as will see, to eliminate the traces of this easy our experiment.

We begin:

Cleansing

$: I sudo aptitude remove libqca2 libqimageblitz4 libsoprano4 libstreamanalyzer0 libstreams0 libstrigiqtdbusclient0 libqca1c2 qca-dev

Qualification of the backports

to decommentare the line deb http://it.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid-backports main restricted universe multiverse

Modernization

$: I sudo aptitude update
$: I sudo aptitude upgrade

Installation bookcases

$: I sudo aptitude install build-essential cdbs debhelper cmake libxml2-dev libxslt1-dev libbz2-dev librdf0-dev shared-MIME-info dbus-x11 libxkbfile-dev libgl1-mesa-dev libglu1-mesa-dev mesa-common-dev libxext-dev libjpeg62-dev libpng12-dev subversion libsm-dev libxinerama-dev libxrender-dev libfontconfig1-dev libboost-dev libxcursor-dev doxygen libungif4-dev libdbus-1-dev libgpgme11-dev libssl-dev libgpgme11-dev libasound2-dev kdesdk-scripts libpth-dev libjasper-dev ssh libxine-dev libglib2.0-dev libpcre3-dev libexpat-ocaml-dev libkipi0-dev libclucene-dev libclucene0ldbl libqt4-opengl-dev libexiv2-dev libqca2-dev libspectre-dev xsltproc libqt4-dev libxtst-dev libxdamage-dev libxcomposite-dev x-dev libical-dev

Kdesvn-build

Unloaded the script of compilation from and, after having here scompattato the archives, copied the rows kdesvn-build in /usr/bin. Now you take the configuration rows, copiatelo in a page of yours editor preferred name it .kdesvn-buildrc and saves it to you in yours home. A small note on these rows of configuration: I have decommentato the modules kdemultimedia, kdegraphics, kdenetwork and added kdeplasma-addons, for a experience more complete than kde. Naturally this involves of the longer times of compilation, for which begun, and then even gone to the bar, the field from tennis or where seems to you; various “ricommentate” and installed only the base modules.

Compilation

$: I sudo kdesvn-build (you will install set up how much in the configuration rows .kdesvn-buildrc).
Al term of the process, if you have wish to compile ulterior additional modules: $: I sudo kdesvn-build nomemodulo (es. kdegames).
you read the rest…”

Dri2, the dawn…

Remembered of the post “To compile compiz fusion on the piccolino”? In this article I evidence a conflict between Dri and OpenGl and wish the release of the Dri2 like element of resolution of the problem. Well, it seems that moment is in order to arrive; in fact on its blog Jerome Glisse (one of the sviluppatori of driver the Radeon) declares to have spold a little of its time during this last week on the Dri2, in order now only on r300, but the majority of the job would have to be able to apply also on the other cards. This new architecture, with the exception of that of the Dri1 that is behaved like a kind of wrapper, would have to converse directly with the hardware; moreover, since through memory manager a kernel it only knows the address hardware of an object, the kernel same it changes the commando who refers to that object and the address writes some before that the commando flow comes sent to the same hardware. Obviously a remarkable increment of the performances would have some to gush, even if, Glisse perceives, to the state puts into effect them is still too much far from optimunm (a frame to the minute…). However, to beyond the too much technical explanations, our Glisse admonishes on the instability of the Dri2, and it could not be otherwise since we are still the dawn, for which if between you reckless one exists some whom wish has to be moderate itself with this “enormous one rompicapo”, does not have that to throw a glance here:

git: /anongit.freedesktop.org/mesa/drm modesetting-gem
git: /people.freedesktop.org/~glisse/xf86-video-ati radeon-gem-cs-dri2
git: /people.freedesktop.org/~glisse/mesa r300-bo-cs

But, I recommend myself, with precaution and moderation.

Theora 1,0 is truth.

The Xiph.Org Foundation has announced the release of Theora 1,0, codec the video to high performances and low consumption of CPU. This new version is released under licence BSD to 3 clauses that of it allows the use is with free software that with software owner.

In the package a reference bookcase is included that uses new decoder an able one to support the detailed lists of Theora entire, thus that this is meaningfully faster of the versions precedence. To find that the future release of Firefox and Opera will support Theora natively, therefore an other great step towards a format more and more free video.
